Michael Shannon, Master of Architecture (Griffith University, 2024)

Michael Shannon is a Master of Architecture at Deicke Richards who works collaboratively across a range of projects in the education, housing, and retirement living sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture, complemented by a Diploma of Horticulture and a Certificate in Landscape Construction, reflecting a broad interest in the relationship between built form, landscape and ecology.

In his role, Michael works closely with project teams and external consultants to support design development and deliver coordinated documentation across projects of varying scale and complexity. He contributes across multiple project stages, assisting in the translation of design intent into clear, buildable outcomes that respond to both technical requirements and community needs.

Michael brings professional experience from both Far North Queensland and Brisbane, with involvement in education, social and affordable housing, and community-focused projects. Notable project experience includes the Bob Marshman Building, Queensland’s first Passivhaus-certified training facility, where he assisted in taking the project from design development through to completion, coordinating detailed documentation to meet stringent performance standards. Other highlights include the Isaac Events Centre redevelopment and precinct revitalisation works for the Department of Housing across regional Queensland, informed by early engagement with residents.

Motivated by the belief that architecture should positively impact communities beyond site boundaries, Michael is committed to sustainable building practices, thoughtful use of materials, and the integration of endemic landscaping. His approach seeks to support resilient environments that benefit both people and the broader ecological context in which projects sit.
