Ian Hamilton is a Senior Architect at Deicke Richards and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Architects who brings more than four decades of architectural experience across the east coast of Australia. Ian’s career spans education, housing, infrastructure, commercial, and highly technical projects, with a particular depth of expertise in documentation quality, buildability, and construction delivery.
Ian has held senior leadership roles within architectural practice since the late 1980s and has led his own practice at multiple points throughout his career. His experience working directly with construction companies has given him a rigorous and practical understanding of construction methodologies, sequencing and risk, which underpins his meticulous approach to documentation, consultant coordination, and contract administration. At Deicke Richards, Ian plays a critical role in design reviews, technical resolution, and mentoring, ensuring projects are compliant and clearly articulated through all stages of delivery.
Alongside his practice, Ian has made a significant contribution to architectural education and professional standards in Australia. He has served for more than a decade as Queensland Regional Convenor for the Architectural Practice Examination, acted as an examiner and reviewer across multiple APE stages, and is a recipient of the AIA Queensland Chapter President’s Award for services to architectural education. His long-standing commitment to mentoring and assessment reflects a career dedicated not only to the making of buildings, but to strengthening the profession itself.
Ian’s work is informed by extensive international travel and study, and by a sustained interest in environmentally responsive, well-crafted architecture grounded in technical excellence.
