Julia is an Architect at Deicke Richards with eight years of professional experience across housing, community, and education projects. She holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Queensland (2022) and is a registered architect (BOAQ 6157) and member of the Australian Institute of Architects. Julia is deeply engaged in architectural education, mentoring students through school-based programs, tutoring at the University of Queensland in co-housing and community-focused design, and regularly contributing as a guest critic. In 2025, she also served on the AIA Central Queensland Regional Awards Jury.
Julia works across multiple project stages and scales, acting as project architect on a range of commissions whilst also collaborating within larger teams. She values the practice’s commitment to meaningful work and finds pride in projects that align with her belief in empathetic, community-centred design. For Julia, good design begins with listening: while architects bring design expertise, clients bring lived experience, and the most successful outcomes come from a genuinely reciprocal process.
Julia’s expertise lies in social and affordable housing, where she has contributed to projects that demonstrate both social impact and strong architectural expression. Her standout work includes the award-winning Mari-Mari-Ba project, Hymba Yumba Stage 3, and Sharing with Friends Co-housing. Julia’s contributions have been acknowledged personally through the AIA QIA Memorial Medallion (2023), the Peter Hale Cox Architecture Prize (2022), and a New Colombo Plan Grant (2017).
Julia is motivated by architecture that creates delight, expresses a strong sense of place, and connects deeply to memory and community identity. She is drawn to work that requires problem-solving and invention, believing that constraints often lead to the most successful and imaginative outcomes. Her practice is grounded in curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to designing spaces that positively shape the lives of the people who use them.
