Sarah Hornick, Architect

Sarah Hornick is an Architect at Deicke Richards with more than 23 years of professional experience, working primarily across education and housing projects. She holds a Bachelor of Architecture (2004) and is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects, bringing a depth of practical knowledge informed by long-term practice, study, and close observation of the built environment.

At Deicke Richards, Sarah is focused on guiding architectural ideas from inception through to well-resolved, enduring outcomes. Her role centres on shaping projects that sit comfortably within their urban and community contexts, balancing complex and sometimes competing requirements to deliver buildings that function effectively and create lasting value for those who use them. She is particularly skilled in master planning, heritage contexts, and brief development, where clarity of intent is critical to project success.

Sarah is motivated by problem solving and takes pride in untangling complexity to achieve straightforward, well-managed processes for clients and project teams alike. She is currently working across a number of education and housing projects and has played a key role in stabilising challenging briefs and translating them into workable, humane, and functional buildings.

While she tends to work behind the scenes, Sarah has contributed to many award-winning projects through her rigour, persistence, and advocacy for quality outcomes. Her approach is driven by a belief that architecture should exceed expectations, delivering benefits beyond those initially anticipated, and by a strong commitment to using her experience to advocate for clients, communities, and the broader public good.
